The English Dancing Master was first published in England in 1650 by John Playford. The impact of this little dance book with country dances has not been fully appreciated. This form of English social dance conquered the continent around 1700 and played a leading role in all the ballrooms of Europe until around 1850. Our dance performance links this dance form to the traditional music of the period and to one composer in particular: Henry Purcell.
Playing with distinction, dynamics, improvisation and theatricality, we bring to the original choreography dramatic or comic theatrical interpretation, but also the chaotic version that degenerates into combat. One thing's for sure after the show, you'll also want to try a country dance !
